Wilhelmine Riedesel was born October 22, 1829 in Wunderthausen. She was the oldest of eleven children of Gabriel and Anna Elisabeth (Müsse) Riedesel of the house known as Bergmanns or Gabels. As many as six of the children eventually went to America (of the eight who grew to adulthood).
We don’t know how she got there, but she married Johann Georg Schneider Jr. in Bucyrus, Ohio on June 24, 1848. The Schneider family also arrived there in Crawford County from Wunderthausen that year so one good possibility is that she traveled with them.
By 1851 the Schneiders had relocated to the Wheatland, Iowa area. Wilhelmine bore a total of 15 children. The first two were born in Ohio while the rest first saw the light of the world in Iowa. She was known as Minnie. They lived out their days there on farm of 160 acres in Section 22 of the Spring Rock Township of Clinton County. George died there January 14, 1883 while Minnie (only) to 67, dying on January 26, 1897. Of course they are buried at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Wheatland.
