This man was presumably born in Stralsund in Vorpommern about 1848. He could have come to America with his parents about 1873 but other records say 1881. We know only his father’s name of Charles. They lived in Chicago. On October 2, 1872 he married Dorothea Roast in Elgin, Kane County which was home to numerous other emigrants from the Stralsund area.
Of John we know only that as of 1880, he was working as tailor in the city of Chicago. By 1900 they were divorced and Dora/Dorothea was living back in Kane County. Where he was–then or later–I don’t know. The couple had at least four children. Dorothea, a native of Berlin, died on June 2, 1926 in Kane County.
