Daughter of George Strackbein, Sr. & Anna Catherine Delkurt

The Sioux Valley News, 22 April 1909, page 8: Mrs. Louisa Strackbein died at her home Wednesday evening, April 14, 1909, of Bright's disease. She had been ailing several months. She was born near Lowden, Iowa, August 30, 1868. On January 8, 1888, she married (Little) George Strackbein, coming to Woodbury County about 25 years ago. The husband and eight children survive her, three boys and five girls, their ages ranging from four months to nineteen years. She also leaves her aged father, two sisters and one brother. She was buried at the Midway Cemetery Saturday, April 17, 1909, Rev. H.W. Sager conducting the services. Those attending from a distance were her father, George Strackbein, Sr., her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Strackbein, all from Lowden.

Farmed in Cedar County in Section 3 of the Springfield Township though had moved in to Lowden by the time of his death. As near as I can tell, the local newspaper (Lowden) did not even run an obituary for him.

Sara was his brother's step-daughter (but no blood relation).

Born in Kurts Haus in Wunderthausen. Came to New York from Bremen on the ship "Salier" on October 4, 1881.

Worked initially in Pennsylvania and New Jersey but settled in Woodbury County where he was known as "Little George." He may have been the George Strackbein who returned from the port of Bremen on July 25, 1909. This would have been shortly after his wife died. This man was 53 (close) and a U.S. citizen.
