Born in Kriegers Haus in Diedenshausen but became the tenant in Schmitte Haus. During his lifetime, serfdom was eliminated, though that meant buying the house and lands from their former lords, the Counts of Sayn-Wittgenstein in Berleburg. He was a shoemaker on the side.
