Born in Kurts Haus in Wunderthausen. Known as Sebastian. Went to America in 1829 according to one history, but the archives in Wittgenstein say it was 1818. The family settled in what was then the independent burg of Jamaica, New York. They were members of a Dutch Reformed church. The service language may or may not have still been Dutch, but this denomination was theologically close to that of the German Reformed church. Later family members apparently used the spelling "Strockbine" which is actually close to the German pronunciation.
