Heinrich Hermann (Henry Herman) Riedesel (1865)

Heinrich Hermann Riedesel was born November 12, 1865 in Wunderthausen in the house Kirchstumpfs/Am Kloster which lies outside the main village. Its name comes from the cloister for nuns that existed nearby in the Middle Ages. He was the third of seven children of Georg Herman and Elisabeth (Homrighausen) Riedesel. His younger sister Catherine also came to America.

I believe he came to America on the ship Prince Frederick Wilhelm out of Bremen, landing in New York on April 30, 1882. Census records are inconsistent about his emigration and even birth date. The 1920 Census says 1882, and that he was naturalized in 1888. By 1920 he was renting and working farmland in the Washington Township of Jackson County, Missouri. By 1930 he owned a home but was working construction.

In about 1897 he married the widow Bertha Curry (maiden name Werber). She was born November 4, 1873 in the Kansas City area. Two of her children from the first marriage were raised with the family. Henry and Bertha were to have seven children together.

Henry died March 5, 1935 and Bertha in 1950. They are buried at Belton, Missouri.
